What to do in Lymington

Submitted by k_mcgregor

A beautiful, Georgian market town, Lymington is situated on the southern edge of the New Forest, between Southampton and Bournemouth and at the western end of the Solent. The town is world renown as a sailing resort; there are two large marinas Berthon and Haven and two sailing clubs RLYC and Lymington Town. Close by the sailing clubs is an open-air seawater bath that was built in 1833.

Lymington has a number of interesting independent shops including some designer boutiques. On Saturday a market is held in the High Street, the origins of which probably date back to the 13th century. At the top of the High Street is the Parish Church, St Thomas Church (circa 1250), from the bottom of the High Street a cobblestone road leads down to the Old Town Quay, still used as a base by commercial fishing boats.

Visiting sailors can moor at the town quay where there is space for 100 boats. A Lymington bareboat RIB charter would be an ideal way to explore the local waters and easily access the possible moorings. Skippered RIB charter from Lymington gives you the freedom to explore, but with the added knowledge and experience of a skipper to guide you. Water sports and activities are also available through RIB hire. Another option for those looking for a more unique location for a party is a Lymington dockside Thames sailing barge party. A Thames sailing barge offers a huge amount of space to entertain guests in an unusually nautical setting.
