BodyTalk: A Case Study
Kevin Kirk is a pretty normal kid, except for the fact that he was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 5. He had surgery, but there was bleeding into his brain and he emerged from surgery heavily impacted. Kevin could no longer sit up, much less walk. He had difficulty processing information and was not developing along with his peers.
Kevin's parents took him to a number of conventional doctors over the next four years, desperately searching for a way to get back what was lost. None of the treatments--physical therapy, speech therapy, or occupational therapy--were working. The physical therapist told the Kirk family that Kevin would probably remain that way forever and that they should stop bringing him to the sessions.
At this point, the Kirks were beyond frustrated. They had gotten nowhere. Soon thereafter, they discovered The Family Hope Center. "I had been on the phone with them for just a couple of minutes and I realized immediately that their approach was fundamentally different from what I had experienced for the last painful four and half years," Bruce Kirk, Kevin's father, explains.
And so Kevin began receiving treatment at The Family Hope Center. The Center, led by husband and wife team Mathew and Carol Newell, operates within a comprehensive regimen of myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, nutrition consultation, and more recently, BodyTalk. All of these are helpful in treating epilepsy, autism, mental retardation, cerebral palsy and attention deficit disorder, among other neurological problems.
The Newells received their BodyTalk training from Karen Atkins of The BodyTalk Center in New York City. "BodyTalk has given us deeper insights," says Mathew. "It helps us to zero in on what is the top priority to address."
When asked to describe his BodyTalk sessions, the now 10-year-old Kevin laughs, "At first, I thought it was weird. But it gives me more energy."
The Kirks are extremely excited about the results they've seen after just seven months of treatment at The Family Hope Center. "We had a follow up visit with one of Kevin's pediatricians," says Bruce. "She hadn't seen him since he started treatment here and she was stunned, just flabbergasted, by how well he's doing."
The Kirk family proudly reports that Kevin has more energy, more hope, is doing better in reading and writing, and most importantly, is leaps and bounds happier.
Kevin Kirk's story is certainly unique, but the frustration of getting nowhere within the conventional health care system is all too familiar to many families whose children were given a neurological diagnosis. Cutting-edge energy healing techniques like Body Talk have given families new hope for the future of their loved ones.
BodyTalk, along with the other techniques The Hope Center employs in Kevin's treatment, has worked to help Kevin develop in stages.
