A Review Of The Movie "The Ninth Gate"
I was taking a break from the old computer and decided to watch some classic film that really wasn't that old. As I was checking the different channels I came across a film called "
The Nine Gates" staring Johnny Deep. I remember him in another movie "Blow" that I liked, so I figured that I would watch it for a while and then go
back to work.
After about 35 minutes I knew that I would end up watching the whole film. It had a fascinating topic about the Devil.A rare book dealer, while seeking out the last two copies of a demon text, gets drawn into a conspiracy with supernatural
overtones
It is a mystery/Horror thriller film based on the novel The Club Dumas by Arturo Pérez-Reverte. It
was co-written and directed by Roman Polanski, and stars Johnny Depp as Dean Corso, a rare books-dealer who is hired by a rich book collector (Frank Langella) to validate his recently purchased copy of The Nine Gates of the Kingdom of Shadows by 17th century author Aristide Torchia.
Dean Corso (Johnny Depp) is a swindling rare-books dealer ]whose only motivation is financial gain. A very rich book collector by the name of Boris Balkan (Frank Langella) hires Corso to validate
his recently purchased copy of
The Nine Gates of the Kingdom of Shadows by 17th century author Aristide Torchia, one of only three surviving copies in the world,
From the very beginning when Dean Corso agrees to accept Ballan's offer to find and validate the
other two copies of the Nine Gates, the bodies start to pile up. First, his friend and business partner was murdered in the style of one of the
engravings in The Nine Gates.
Corso then travels to Portugal and after viewing another copy of the Nine Gates, another murder takes place. He encounters a young women that he remembers from his own country. But this young women is no ordinary women by any means. He then ends up in Paris where the killings continue. The ending of this film is not what I guessed it would be, but it was sure entertaining, to say the least. I would recommend this film to anyone who likes suspense and horror rolled into one. Johnny Deep has now entered my perception of what a good actor is. I think lt hat he is very talented and plays a very convincing part in this film.
