Modern Children’s Furniture

When thinking about decorating your child’s room, there are a plethora of things to think about; there’s just so many ways to design it. And once your child actually starts to make decisions of his own, then you have even more to think about and consider.

Your child may want a themed room, but you may want a modern – yet children’s – room. Or you may just want to listen to his demands and go all out with a fully-themed room.

A themed can cost a lot of money if you’re not careful, and with kids’ tastes constantly changing you may have to redecorate his room again in just a year or two.

There are many different themes to pick from. There are pirates, Disney characters, princesses, the ocean and its creatures, the beach, space, zombies, ghosts, movie characters or one particular movie – to name a few of the options.

A pirate-themed room could include a bed that is shaped like a ship with sails and the works. The walls could be painted like the ocean, with a wallpaper border of animated pirates. The room could also include furniture that at least looks like heavy wood and treasure chests.

If it’s a princess bedroom, the bedroom could be covered in everything pink with a four-poster, canopy bed. The bed would be very soft and very pink, with many, many pillows on top of it. The room would have many dolls and soft, plush toys. The walls could have a castle painted on them, with a dreamy, magical village and forest around it.

But if you feel like being more reasonable, spending less money and being more creative then you could combine parts of your child’s dream theme-room with parts of your practical, easy modern bedroom.

Maybe pick a couple of colors that would be in the themed-room and then pick some pieces of furniture that could be made either themed or not themed.

Make your little girl’s princess room without the mural of the castle and its grounds. Paint the walls a soft pink color that can easily grow with her as she ages. The wall color can even be changed if she wants – it’s one of the cheapest things you can do to change up a room.

And instead of buying her a large four-poster bed, get her a smaller twin or full-sized bed. Then put soft sheets and a soft fluffy, good-quality comforter on top. You can also keep some of the pillows on top of the bed – these can be particularly affordable.

Lastly, for the furniture, buy pieces that can be painted and that can have the paint taken off of them. Purchasing items that you can do multiple things with will help tremendously on your pocket and with your child’s evolving tastes.
