Agriculture and natural resources essay deals with the interrelation between them and the different aspects those are making impacts in these relationship.
Soil, water, sunlight, air, flora and fauna are the most valuable natural resources known to man for sustainable development. Out of all, soil is basic requirement of agriculture. One of the major factors responsible for low crop yields is the growing loss of top fertile soil, causing damage to soil heath and fertility. It takes one hundred to four hundred years to form one centimeter of top soil in nature but all this soil can be lost in just one year due to erosion. Water is another essential requirement for life as essential as food and air. It is nature's most precious gift and a priceless asset of living system. There is no life on moon because there is no water. No crop can be raised successfully unless water is available in adequate quantity. Like land, it is also getting scarce, costly and polluted. Soils have been ruined by direct action of man. Much soil is destroyed annually by erosion. Rivers have been polluted and fish life destroyed. For his short term benefits, man mercilessly exploits natural resources without caring their need for future generation of species both plant and animal life. Our forefathers were wise enough to preserve the basic natural resources for millennium and hand them down to us almost intact. But what are we doing? One intervention with natural environment including climate, land, soil and water has detrimental effects not only to the agriculture but also to the community and the society. Growing industrialization, modernization and urbanization has disturbed eco balance and depleted soil fertility for future. We don't care for long term disasters that can take place if we continue with short term benefits by harnessing natural resources in our own style. Modernization of agriculture affects the profitability and sustainability in the following manner:
1) Heavy dependence on fertilizers
2) Increasing micro nutrient deficiency
3) Decreasing efficiency of fertilizers because land has become addict to it.
4) Greater depletion of water level
5) Increasing dependence on pesticides and disturbing natural equilibrium.
6) Growing population which is causing an undue strain and pressure on our valuable resources.
7) Changing life style
8) Per capita income is increasing leading to a corresponding increase in demand for food and other materials that the natural resources are exploited for.
9) High income groups as well as middle income brackets do not want only more food but food of better quality such as milk, egg and meat necessitating production of extra feed and fodder for the livestock.
One leader and statesmen rightly pointed out" earth provides enough to satisfy man's needs but not man's greed". The situation obtaining in our country demands that along with measures to check population growth, efforts are also made, in the interest of the present and future generations, to bring home to the people the horrifying consequences of lavish and extravagant consumption of food and non food materials and to impress upon them the urgent need to properly preserve, fully develop and optimally use the natural resources.
Agricultural and natural resources essay help a student to comprehend the different aspects of this subject which is related with our whole planet.
