It has got to that point in the day when my head starts to feel heavy and my mouth starts to open to release frequent eye watering yawns. I am clock watching on my last hour and a half at work and time is moving slowly, the monotone sound of peoples bored voices mingle with the occasional shuffling feet to, fro, flip and flop past my desk to the water cooler. I know they are clock watching too.

Even my computer is tired, I can tell by the heat of the monitor buzzing next to my ankles. The brightly lit screen is reaching into the back of my eyes and prodding my numb grey brain. I have officially run out of creative writing juice. Artistically descriptive words are getting ever more elusive whilst conversely the complex doodles on my notepad become increasingly elaborate.

Noises become louder and the squeak of a chair, the tapping of keyboards and the clicking of a mouse become tetanus educing. I was going to say the 'clicks of mice' but I am unsure as to the correct plural to use for a computer mouse...does anyone else think that 'computer mice' just sounds downright weird? Anyway back to the point. Oh what was I talking about again?

Exhibit A. Lack of concentration, another symptom of 'end of the day syndrome'.

At this point I feel as though I have begun to gain a deeper understanding of method acting. The pursuit of an actor to be as close as possible to the state of his subject in order to properly understand the character and thus make his or her portrayal more realistic. By this I mean that there would be no way I could write this article if I was light fingered and morning fresh. The authenticity would just not be there and you the reader would just not identify with me in the way that I wanted.

Through this eye drooping experience I have found the perfect way to alleviate end of the day slumping. Online shopping! Unfortunately since the office has been arranged so that my desk faces the rest of the room it is a little hard for me to enjoy the pursuit of staring at potential new clothes. For those of you in a more advantageous position...it's a great stimulating time waster, try it. Unfortunately however settle for the odd inconspicuous fashion pic slideshow in the Times or the Guardian online.

So, reader next time you feel the familiar aching squeeze on your tired synapses. See how far Topshop's daily fashion fix can boost you right out of it.

Ps In case my boss reads this article I must state that I am completely making this up and that I actually spend the end part of the day writing intense articles about feminism and climate change. Honestly.
