The trick to ebook rewriting is to know that ebook writing is not the same as rewriting an article. The difference lies in the functionality and utility of both. An article is meant to illustrate a small point whereas an ebook explores a subject, goes into the depth of it and tells the reader everything there is to know about what it is written about.

The first step to rewriting an ebook is perhaps the most important step in all – reading it. Let’s not fool anyone; you need to know everything written in the book and understand it too, before you even begin rewriting it. Read the book thoroughly, understand every line written in it, and its significance, and get comfortable with the subject.

The reason you cannot rewrite an ebook paragraph by paragraph, as can be done with an article, is that a book is divided into various sections that require the knowledge of every section before it is written. For example, you can not write an introduction for the book without knowing the advantages and disadvantages, the exact functioning and the purpose of what you are writing about. You will need to give a vague idea of the contents of the ebook within the introduction, which can not be possible unless you are sure about the exact purpose of the book. It is only when you know the idea thoroughly that you can know what to advertise, what to emphasize upon, and what to not stress much upon.

Once you have achieved this, you are on your way to start rewriting the ebook. The next step is to divide your knowledge into sections – or chapters – that will feature in the book. The usual categorization starts from the introduction, in which you need to rewrite the introduction from the original ebook, emphasizing what you know to be the most important point of the ebook and skillfully taking attention away from the points that will mar the credibility of the ebook. Of course, if it is a critical topic, you will need to highlight the shortcomings of what you are selling to make it a success.

It is not advisable to rewrite an ebook paragraph by paragraph, as already mentioned. The best approach is to rewrite it chapter by chapter. Every chapter you rewrite should start with a vague idea of what is to follow. The main content of the original chapter should follow the introduction by writing in depth about every idea mentioned. If your ebook contains images, then they should be placed either just before or after the paragraph explaining them or referring to them.

The end of your rewritten chapter should be similar to the end of the original chapter – either concluding the idea written in the chapter or introducing the utility of the idea that is to follow in the next chapter. The last and concluding chapter of your ebook should give a summary of everything the ebook has accomplished in explaining and how it is relevant to the point being made. That is all there is to doing a good rewrite of an existing ebook.

In the end, it is always useful to remember a few rules that apply to generic ebook writing – redundant sentences are a point deducted and so are copy-pasted sentences. With ebook rewriting if you cannot make sense of a sentence in the original ebook, it is best to not mention it at all than to write what can probably be an inaccurate or false statement. Not very difficult, is it?
