A Hilton Head Island man finds a message in a bottle after it washes up on the shores of Tower Beach.

It was just a normal day on the beach for Jack Shea until he stumbled onto a floating wine bottle. What he thought was litter turned out to be something much more.

"As I walked up to the bottle to pick it up, I saw that there was a dollar bill and a piece of paper in it."

When Shea opened the bottle, he didn't find a treasure map or a love letter, but a message from an eleven year- old, Rhode Island boy. The letter mentioned his favorite tv show, Tosh.O, and says it was written the day Osama Bin-laden was killed. And in just three short months, it traveled 1000 miles and arrived off the coast of Hilton Head.

"Here is a little kid that had just trust and hope that someone would actually find his bottle, his intentions, his words, and they were found."

It's like the old saying, 'one man's trash is another man's treasure,' and an old, empty wine bottle for Jack Shea means a renewed sense of hope. And he hopes to pass this treasure along.

He plans on writing his own note of hope and placing both letters back in the bottle and launching it into the ocean this weekend when the water is churned up from hurricane Irene.

"And I truly truly hope that if it takes a month, a year, a day, or an hour, I hope that it is delivered to a person that needs that message of hope and trust."

Shea hasn't yet contacted the boy, but says he plans on mailing him a copy of both notes and a letter about how he passed the bottle along.
